Residents in Osun State have called for an urgent investigation into an allegation that some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force invaded a Registration Area Centre (RAC) in Ife East Local Government Area during the distribution of election materials.


The allegation, which circulated on social media, claimed that some police personnel allegedly stormed the RAC centre in Ward 10, identified as Modakeke Ward 3, and fired tear gas in an attempt to disrupt the distribution of electoral materials.


The report further alleged that the electoral materials at the centre were subsequently carted away.


Concerned residents have consequently called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to investigate the allegation and take appropriate action if the claims are established.


They urged the police authorities to ensure that their personnel remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process, stressing that the security agencies have a responsibility to protect election materials and safeguard the integrity of the exercise.


The residents also called for measures to prevent any further disruption at RAC centres across the state, while urging all stakeholders to uphold peace and allow the electoral process to proceed without interference.
