Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has terminated the appointments of all political appointees as his first term winds down ahead of his second-term inauguration.
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the immediate termination of the appointments of all political appointees in the state and dissolved boards, commissions and parastatals.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode.
The affected political appointees include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants.
According to the statement, the decision was taken as the governor’s first term gradually winds down ahead of his inauguration for a second term, scheduled for October 16, 2026. Oyebanji was re-elected in the June 20 governorship election.
However, the termination does not cover every government appointment. Chairmen and members of statutory commissions, including the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission, are not affected.
The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place.
Similarly, the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will remain in office, although their respective boards have been dissolved.
Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination.
Governor Oyebanji thanked the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to Ekiti State, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
