A resident of Osun State, Adedapo Taiwo Emmanuel, has accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of failing to uphold neutrality and effectively address security challenges in the state.
In an open letter addressed to the Commissioner, Emmanuel alleged that the police command had not done enough to curb violence and criminal activities in parts of the state, particularly in Ilobu, where a 14-year-old boy, Ezekiel, was recently killed.
The writer claimed that the police had shown bias in handling political and security-related matters, especially during the local government crisis in the state. He further alleged that some political actors and their supporters had operated without fear of arrest despite accusations of involvement in violent activities.
Emmanuel called on the Commissioner of Police to ensure a thorough investigation into the killing of the teenager and to arrest all individuals found culpable, regardless of their political affiliations.
According to him, the father of the deceased had identified a suspect allegedly linked to the incident and urged the police authorities not to allow the case to be abandoned or politicized.
The letter also expressed concerns over rising insecurity and alleged acts of violence by political thugs, while urging security agencies to remain professional and impartial in carrying out their constitutional duties.
Emmanuel concluded by calling on the police leadership to prioritize justice, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across Osun State.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not issued an official response to the allegations contained in the letter.
