Accord Rep. Candidate for Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has alleged that former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, is behind a possible move to have him arrested ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Olajengbesi made the allegation in a Facebook post, where he claimed that some senior police officers had warned him to leave Osun State immediately.

According to him, the officers allegedly informed him that Oyetola had instructed that the Inspector-General of Police should “get a good reason” to arrest him before the following morning.

The Accord chieftain, however, did not disclose the identities of the police officers who allegedly gave him the warning or provide evidence to substantiate the claim.

Reacting to the alleged development, Olajengbesi accused Oyetola of using the powers attached to his ministerial office to allegedly intimidate and oppress people in Osun State.

He also referenced the 2022 governorship election, when Oyetola lost his re-election bid to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying the people of the state had previously spoken through the ballot.

Olajengbesi further declared that no amount of alleged intimidation would stop the people of Osun from exercising their democratic rights.

“Let Oyetola be told that no amount of intimidation can erase the will of a determined people. Osun people have spoken before and they will speak again,” he stated.

He also disclosed that he was in Ilesa-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, at the time of making the post.

The allegation comes less than a week to the August 15 Osun State governorship election, amid heightened political activities and tensions among the major political parties in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no independent confirmation that Oyetola ordered Olajengbesi's arrest, while neither the former governor nor the Nigeria Police Force had publicly confirmed the alleged arrest plan.
