The Ogun State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, arresting a suspected cult leader, an armed robbery suspect, and a receiver of stolen property in separate operations across Mowe, Ago-Iwoye, and Warewa areas of the state.

The Command said the intelligence-led operations led to the disruption of a planned cult initiation exercise, the recovery of a stolen motorcycle, parts of a 10KVA generator worth ₦650,000, and the prevention of mob action against a robbery suspect.

According to the police, the successes underscore the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and crime prevention under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.

Cult Leader Arrested in Mowe

In Mowe, police operatives arrested 26-year-old Ewebiyi Afeez, described as a notorious leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating within the area.

The arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the group was planning an initiation exercise aimed at recruiting new members and expanding its activities. Acting swiftly, officers carried out surveillance operations that led to the suspect’s arrest and the disruption of the planned initiation.

Police said Afeez reportedly confessed to his leadership role and involvement in cult-related activities during interrogation. He has since been transferred for further investigation and prosecution.

Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed in Ago-Iwoye

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ago-Iwoye Division arrested a suspected armed robber, identified as Segun Ona Anjo, 32, following an attack on a commercial motorcyclist.

Police said the incident occurred on June 16, 2026, when the victim was allegedly attacked by two passengers he had conveyed on his motorcycle. The suspects reportedly struck the rider with a hammer, inflicting injuries before making away with the motorcycle.

Following a distress call, local residents pursued and apprehended one of the suspects before police arrived at the scene. Officers subsequently restored order and prevented an attempted mob attack on the suspect.

The stolen motorcycle and the hammer allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects targeted commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes, using hammers to overpower victims before stealing their motorcycles. Police also linked the arrested suspect to similar incidents in the area.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the wider criminal network.

Generator Parts Recovered in Warewa

Meanwhile, detectives from the Warewa Division arrested Umar Sulaiman over his alleged involvement in the diversion and illegal disposal of a rented 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000.

According to police findings, the generator was rented out for legitimate business purposes but was later diverted and sold for just ₦15,000.

Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the stolen property to Kara-Isheri, where the suspect was allegedly found dismantling the generator into parts. Several components of the equipment were recovered during the operation.

The police said investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the theft and disposal of the generator.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to combat criminal activities across the state.
