Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across motor parks in Osun State as part of measures to restore peace and order.

The directive was issued on Thursday after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, chaired by the governor and attended by top security chiefs, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Army, Air Force, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NDLEA, Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), NAPTIP, the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), as well as senior government officials.

Addressing the security situation in the state, Governor Adeleke ordered security agencies to halt all NURTW operations in motor parks with immediate effect, including the collection of levies by the union.

The governor also directed the police and other security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any motor park across the state.

"I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbing public peace," Adeleke said.

According to the governor, the order is aimed at restoring sanity in motor parks while ensuring that transport activities continue without disruption.

The security commanders at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to enforcing the directive.

Governor Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from all security agencies in the state to monitor compliance and maintain law and order.
