The Osun State Police Command has reportedly arrested five suspects, including Barrister Abdulrauf Ogunshola, in connection with the killing of 14-year-old Olapade Ezekiel in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
According to a report published by Osun Defender on Friday, October 16, 2026, the teenager was shot dead on June 21, 2026, during a violent incident at his mother’s palm-wine shop in Ilobu.
The other suspects were identified as Saheed Kareem, 32, popularly known as Tanfiani; Ismail Yekeen, 24, also known as Asumo Ayan; Abass Afeez, 32, known as SS Abass; and Salako Taofeek, 30, popularly called Fenuso.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incident was reported by Olugbenga Olapade, the deceased’s father, who told the police that his son was at the shop with his parents and other customers when the attack occurred.
According to the police account, a group of individuals allegedly arrived in a Sienna bus and began shooting sporadically, killing the teenager and injuring another person identified as Matthew John, popularly known as Mofoto.
The police said operatives subsequently launched an investigation and tracked down the suspects, who had allegedly been evading arrest.
The command further stated that the suspects confessed to participating in the crime, while Salako Taofeek, also known as Fenuso, was identified by the other suspects as the person who allegedly fired the shot that killed Ezekiel.
Police also disclosed that Taofeek reportedly identified a person known as Alaagba, who remains at large, as the alleged armourer and custodian of the firearm used in the operation.
The command said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest the fleeing suspect for possible prosecution.
The police assured the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and impartially, based on credible evidence and forensic findings.
The killing of Ezekiel sparked public concern and renewed calls for accountability amid heightened political tensions in Osun State. The teenager’s death had previously been linked in media reports to violence around the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.
The latest reported arrests mark a further development in the investigation as authorities seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and determine the responsibility of those allegedly involved.
The allegations against the suspects remain subject to due process, and their guilt must be established by a court of law.
