The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate unexplained bank transfers reportedly received by workers of Offa Local Government Area.

The party also gave the council chairman, Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, 48 hours to explain the circumstances surrounding the transactions, which reportedly began on October 11, 2026.

In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP alleged that several local government employees received unexpected credit alerts ranging from ₦80,000 to ₦800,000 and above, despite not applying for loans or formally requesting the payments.

According to the party, some of the affected workers were subsequently instructed to refund the money on the grounds that the transfers resulted from a technical error by a consultant.

The development, the PDP said, had raised questions about the source of the funds, the authorisation of the payments, the identity of the consultant involved and the account into which the workers were allegedly asked to return the money.

The opposition party maintained that if the transactions resulted from an administrative error, the council authorities should provide documentary evidence and adopt a transparent and lawful process for recovering the funds.

It therefore urged Omituntun to publicly clarify the purpose of the payments, identify the consultant allegedly responsible and explain the basis for the reported refund instructions within 48 hours.

The PDP warned that, if established, the circumstances surrounding the transactions could raise concerns about financial accountability and the management of public funds under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The party also advised the affected workers to preserve their bank alerts, account statements, text messages and other relevant records relating to the payments and refund instructions.

It cautioned them against transferring the money to any account based solely on informal directives, urging them to seek verifiable clarification from the relevant authorities and their banks before taking further action.

Beyond the EFCC and ICPC, the party called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the transactions, secure relevant financial records and establish whether the payments were legitimate disbursements, administrative errors or possible fraudulent transfers.

The PDP said the matter required urgent attention, particularly as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As of Friday, October 16, 2026, the allegations had not been independently verified, and the reports did not include a response from the Offa Local Government chairman or the consultant allegedly involved.
