The Osun State Government and the Presidency are reportedly working towards a negotiated settlement of the lingering local government crisis in the state, with a resolution expected before the 2027 general elections.
The spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this during an appearance on the Frank Talk programme on Rave 91.7 FM on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Rasheed said the governor and the Presidency were putting together a negotiating team to address the dispute surrounding local government administration in Osun State.
He clarified, however, that he was not a member of the negotiating committee and was not familiar with the specific framework being considered to resolve the matter.
According to him, the negotiation process is ongoing, and the parties involved are working towards finding a solution before the next general elections.
Rasheed expressed optimism that the crisis would be resolved within the stated timeframe, urging residents of Osun State to remain calm and look forward to a positive outcome..
The dispute over control of local government councils in Osun has remained a major political and legal issue, with opposing political interests contesting the legitimacy of council leadership and the administration of local government affairs.
Rasheed’s remarks suggest that negotiations between the state government and the Presidency may offer a path towards resolving the impasse. However, details of the proposed framework and the identities of those who would make up the negotiating team have not been disclosed.
The final outcome will depend on the terms agreed upon by the parties and any applicable legal requirements governing local government administration in the state.
