The Imole Campaign Council Spokesperson, Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has raised the alarm over what he described as “credible and deeply disturbing information” alleging a plot to harm detained Osun Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin.

Olajengbesi made the allegation in a Facebook post, where he claimed that information reaching him indicated that there was an alleged plan to harm Adejoorin while he remains in detention.

According to the post, Olajengbesi also raised concerns over an alleged incident involving an unidentified woman who reportedly arrived in a white Hilux vehicle carrying a white handkerchief suspected, according to the allegation, to contain a harmful substance.

However, the claims have not been independently verified, and Olajengbesi did not provide evidence identifying the woman, the substance allegedly involved or those purportedly behind the alleged plot.

Expressing concern over Adejoorin's safety, the Accord chieftain called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to immediately ensure the safety and wellbeing of the detained commissioner.

“Nothing must happen to him in custody,” Olajengbesi stated, before adding in capital letters: “MAYOWA MUST NOT DIE IN DETENTION.”

He further called on Nigerians, media organisations, civil society groups and the international community to take note of the allegation, declaring that “the whole world is watching.”

The development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with political parties and their supporters trading allegations over security and the treatment of political actors.

As of the time of this report, there was no independent confirmation of the alleged plot to harm Adejoorin, while the police had not, in the material available, publicly responded to the specific allegation raised by Olajengbesi.
