The German Embassy in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians applying for German visas against relying on individuals or organisations operating as so-called “visa agents.”


The embassy issued the warning on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, urging prospective applicants to be wary of misinformation and to obtain visa-related information directly from the German mission.


In a message shared through its official social media platform, the embassy said: “Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly.”


The mission also invited Nigerians to share claims they had heard from visa agents so that it could clarify or address such information in subsequent public updates.


The embassy later made its position explicit, stating that it does not work with any “visa agents.”


It further noted that applicants do not need intermediaries to access official information, as details concerning German visa requirements and application procedures are available through the embassy’s official channels.


The warning is particularly relevant to Nigerians seeking German visas for study, employment, tourism and family reunification, among other purposes.


The embassy urged applicants to be cautious of anyone claiming to represent the German mission, possess special access or have the ability to influence visa decisions.


Prospective applicants are therefore advised to verify visa information through official German government channels before making payments, submitting personal documents or relying on claims made by third parties.


The clarification is aimed at helping applicants avoid misinformation, unnecessary expenses and potential visa-related scams.
