A Fulani socio-cultural group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene and caution Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over remarks and activities it described as capable of threatening peaceful coexistence.
The group, in a statement issued on Monday, expressed concern over recent comments attributed to Igboho, alleging that such statements could heighten ethnic tensions and undermine efforts aimed at promoting unity and security in the South-West region.
According to the group, the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government have a responsibility to ensure that all citizens operate within the bounds of the law and refrain from actions capable of inciting violence or creating divisions among ethnic groups.
The association urged President Tinubu and Governor Makinde to take proactive steps to preserve peace and maintain harmonious relations between different communities, particularly in areas where tensions have previously emerged.
While emphasizing the importance of freedom of expression, the group maintained that public figures and influential individuals should exercise caution in their utterances to avoid statements that could be interpreted as inflammatory.
The call comes amid ongoing debates over security, ethnic relations, and self-determination agitations in parts of the country.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Sunday Igboho nor the governments of President Tinubu and Governor Makinde had officially responded to the group's demands.
Observers say the development underscores the need for continued dialogue and peaceful engagement among stakeholders to prevent tensions and strengthen national unity.
