Bandits have reportedly killed the District Head of Gallah, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, a respected traditional ruler under the Borgu Emirate in Niger State.
Yusuf, also known as the Magajin Garin Gallah of Agwara Local Government Area, was reportedly targeted after warning armed men against infiltrating his community.
According to reports, the assailants stormed his palace and killed the traditional ruler in what is suspected to be a reprisal attack. His death has reportedly thrown the community and the wider Borgu Emirate into mourning.
The Borgu Emirate has since confirmed the monarch’s death, describing the incident as a painful loss. The late traditional ruler was also reportedly a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
The incident has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Niger State, particularly rural communities where traditional rulers and residents continue to face threats from armed groups.
