The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit allegedly involved in livestock theft in Gidan Madi, Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was reportedly arrested at a local market while in possession of a goat, which was later identified by its owner as one of the animals allegedly stolen from the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the arrest, saying the victim also identified the suspect as one of those allegedly involved in the theft.
According to the police spokesman, the incident occurred on September 15 when the suspect and his alleged accomplices reportedly went to Jurelku village in Gidan Madi and stole livestock belonging to residents.
“The suspect was arrested at the market with a goat. The owner identified the goat and also identified the suspect and his colleagues,” Rufai said.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators with information that could help track down other members of the alleged group.
The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
