Hundreds of residents in Osogbo, Osun State, have been thrown into uncertainty following the sudden closure of a company reportedly involved in the sale of food items at prices significantly below prevailing market rates.
The company, according to affected customers, had in recent months attracted a large number of residents with offers involving food items such as rice, cooking oil, spaghetti and semovita at relatively cheaper prices.
Some customers said they had paid substantial sums of money in anticipation of receiving food packages and other benefits offered by the company.
However, tension reportedly heightened on Monday morning after the business abruptly shut its operations, leaving customers unable to access the company or ascertain the status of their payments.
Scores of aggrieved customers reportedly gathered at the company's premises in the Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, demanding explanations and seeking the recovery of their funds.
Witnesses alleged that the company had generated significant revenue from the scheme before its sudden closure. The allegations, however, have not been independently verified.
The situation reportedly attracted the presence of security personnel, including police officers deployed to the area to maintain peace and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The affected residents are calling on relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the company's closure, establish what happened to customers' funds and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable.
As of the time of filing this report, the operators of the company were reportedly unreachable, while efforts to obtain their response to the allegations were unsuccessful.
Press Point News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more verified information emerges.
