Tension gripped the Idi-Seke area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in the early hours of Thursday following a violent clash between suspected rival cult groups, leaving at least two persons feared dead and several others injured.

The confrontation, which reportedly erupted in the community during the morning hours, threw residents and business owners into panic as sporadic gunshots and violent attacks forced many to flee for safety.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the violence escalated rapidly as members of the rival groups engaged in a fierce confrontation, resulting in casualties and significant damage to property. Several vehicles parked within the vicinity were reportedly vandalised during the unrest, while injured victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The incident also disrupted commercial activities in the area, with many residents remaining indoors to avoid being caught in the violence.

Security operatives were later deployed to the scene to restore order and prevent further escalation of the crisis. Their presence reportedly helped to calm tensions and reassure residents.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm the exact number of casualties.
