Troops of the Nigerian military have successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to security sources, the attack occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, when suspected terrorists attempted to infiltrate and assault troops stationed at FOB Gwashi.
The sources said the troops swiftly engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing the terrorists to retreat before they could breach the military facility.
Although details of casualties or arrests were not immediately available, the prompt response by the troops prevented the attackers from overrunning the base and ensured the security of personnel and equipment.
The attempted assault is the latest in a series of attacks targeting military formations in Nigeria's North-West, where security forces have continued offensive operations against armed groups responsible for banditry, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.
Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, security sources said efforts are ongoing to track the fleeing attackers and prevent further threats in the area.
