A TikTok content creator, Ifechukwu Dennis, who was previously arrested over alleged AI-generated voice recordings impersonating President Bola Tinubu, has been re-arraigned on fresh charges by the Nigeria Police Force following his release from Kuje Correctional Centre.

Dennis regained his freedom after spending several weeks in detention, with his release reportedly facilitated by a legal and advocacy team associated with human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

However, shortly after reuniting with his family, the police filed new charges against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja, reigniting the legal battle surrounding the case.

Reacting to the development, Sowore condemned the fresh prosecution, describing it as an act of persecution rather than a legitimate pursuit of justice. He vowed that his legal team would vigorously challenge the charges in court.

The case has continued to generate public attention, particularly after the social media investigator whose allegations reportedly contributed to Dennis’ arrest later withdrew his claims. The investigator is said to have recanted after concluding that Dennis was not responsible for the alleged offence.

Details of the fresh charges filed by the police have yet to be fully disclosed, while legal proceedings are expected to continue at the Federal High Court.

The development has renewed debates about digital rights, the use of artificial intelligence in content creation, and concerns over freedom of expression on social media platforms in Nigeria.
