President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that he will not make it easy for political opponents seeking to remove him from office, describing political competition as an inevitable part of democracy.

The President made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, where discussions centered on Nigeria's political climate, governance, and the role of opposition parties.

Speaking on the challenges confronting the country, Tinubu said his administration inherited many of the nation's current difficulties and has remained committed to addressing them rather than avoiding responsibility.

"The challenges are there. I inherited them. I didn't run away from them," the President said.

Addressing the nation's political landscape, Tinubu acknowledged that attempts by opponents to unseat him were expected in a democratic system but stressed that he would not aid such efforts.

"Those who want to unseat me will try. I won't help them tie a rope around my neck. We'll wrestle till the end. All is fair in politics," he stated.

The President also rejected allegations that his administration was intimidating opposition figures, insisting that his government remains committed to democratic principles and political freedom.

"We will never, never intimidate anyone. If political opponents cry wolf, maybe they are afraid of their own shadows, or it is their own incompetence, not me," Tinubu said.

Despite the intense political competition, Tinubu emphasized that governance remains his administration's priority, adding that political differences should not undermine civility or distract the government from delivering on its responsibilities.

His comments come amid heightened political activities and growing alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to challenge the ruling party's hold on power.
