Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).


The high-level summit is expected to focus on strategies for conflict prevention and resolution, as well as efforts to promote lasting peace and stability across the African continent.


Shettima will join other African leaders and key stakeholders to deliberate on regional security challenges and explore practical measures to strengthen continental mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts.


Nigeria, which has continued to play a significant role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts across Africa, is expected to contribute to discussions on strengthening cooperation and sustaining peace on the continent.


The Vice President, who is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, is also expected to deliver President Tinubu’s address at the summit, outlining Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration.


According to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Shettima will reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peace and stability across Africa before returning to the country at the conclusion of his engagements in Angola.
