Residents of Kawel Village in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, have called on the Federal Government and security agencies to take decisive action following a deadly attack that claimed the lives of about 20 people and left several others injured.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, threw the community into mourning as heavily armed assailants reportedly invaded the village, opening fire on residents and forcing many to flee for safety.

Community leaders condemned the violence, describing it as another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity in Bokkos and neighbouring communities. They urged the government to strengthen security operations, apprehend the perpetrators, and prevent further attacks on innocent residents.

The villagers also appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance for affected families, many of whom have been displaced or lost loved ones and their means of livelihood as a result of the attack.

Security operatives were said to have responded to the incident and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat. However, no arrests have been reported. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed emergency and humanitarian agencies to provide immediate support to victims and their families while security agencies continue efforts to track down those responsible.
