The Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has been arrested by police operatives in Osun State following a warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday by operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in a village in Ijesaland, hours after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest over his repeated failure to appear in court for arraignment.

The suspect is facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud, and impersonation in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.

According to security sources, Adeyemi had been under surveillance by the Department of State Services (DSS) for several days before the operation was taken over by a special police unit. The spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect was being transported to Abuja.

At the court proceedings earlier on Tuesday, the prosecution argued that Adeyemi had failed to appear before the court on multiple occasions despite several adjournments. The court subsequently granted the prosecution's application and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

In his ruling, Justice Umar noted that the defendant had appeared in court only once since the case was filed in November 2025 and had missed four consecutive court dates. The judge directed security agencies to arrest and produce him before the court on September 30, 2026, when he is expected to take his plea.

Adeyemi has consistently denied wrongdoing and previously claimed that threats to his life were responsible for his absence from public view. He also rejected allegations that the PFIPC was a non-existent government agency.

Police investigations allege that forged appointment letters, official seals, reference numbers, and other government documents were used to create the impression that the PFIPC was a legitimate federal agency. The investigation was launched following a petition from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

The case continues to attract public attention due to allegations surrounding the council's operations and claims of financial irregularities linked to its activities.
