A lawyer and Accord party candidate, Oriade/Obokun Federal Rep, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has announced the death of Ajayi Rogba, an indigene of Esa-Oke in Osun State, amid growing political tensions in parts of the state.
In a statement shared via his Facebook page, Olajengbesi alleged that Rogba, whom he described as one of their committed supporters, was shot and killed on the eve of a planned political rally. He further claimed that the incident was politically motivated.
Olajengbesi expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, his friends, and members of the Esa-Oke community, describing the development as a heartbreaking tragedy. He also called for accountability, urging authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
The claims have not been independently verified, and no official statement had been issued by security agencies at the time of filing this report. Likewise, those accused in the allegation had not publicly responded to the claims.
The incident comes amid heightened political activities and growing tensions in Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election. Stakeholders have repeatedly called on political actors and their supporters to embrace peace and avoid actions capable of undermining public safety.
Residents and observers have urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rogba's death and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
As of press time, authorities were yet to provide further details regarding the incident or any arrests connected to the case.
