The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a five-year-old girl, identified as Miss Fikayo Gbemiga, who was abducted from her residence in the Iyana Offa area of Ibadan.
The victim was rescued unharmed during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
According to the Police, the child was kidnapped on July 3, 2026, after the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access to her family’s residence and subsequently demanded a ransom of ₦10 million for her release.
Following the abduction, detectives launched an intensive investigation, deploying technology and other advanced investigative tools to track the suspects and determine their location.
The operation led to the arrest of the principal suspects, identified as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25, at their hideout in the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, on July 11, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m.
Police said the victim was rescued minutes later at approximately 10:35 p.m., before the suspects could relocate her or evade arrest.
Investigations further revealed that the suspects had allegedly received ₦1 million in ransom payments from the victim’s family at Gbongan, Osun State, on July 8, as part of negotiations for the child’s release.
The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to recover the ransom money and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who remain at large.
Commending the operatives involved in the rescue mission, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, praised their professionalism and dedication, noting that the successful operation underscores the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies, assuring the public that intelligence received would be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.
