President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held an emergency meeting with 76 leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Osun State as the party intensifies efforts to secure victory in the August 15 governorship election.

The meeting, according to a report by PUNCH, was convened at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid concerns over alleged divisions and dissatisfaction among some APC stakeholders in the state.

Sources cited in the report said the meeting followed intelligence reportedly presented by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, suggesting that some APC leaders were unhappy with developments within the party ahead of the election.

The aggrieved leaders were said to have complained about what they described as their exclusion from the party's activities and campaign structures.

Among those reportedly present at the meeting were former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Olubunmi Ete; former Osun State House of Assembly Speakers, Mojeed Alabi, Adejare Bello and Wale Afolabi; as well as Shuaib Oyedokun, Poju Odusola and Bode Olanipekun.

The meeting was reportedly frank, with participants expressing their concerns directly to the President.

One of the major issues raised was the alleged dominance of a particular political camp within the Osun APC, with some leaders reportedly expressing fears that they could remain marginalised even if the party wins the governorship election.

The issue of federal appointments was also reportedly discussed. Some participants were said to have complained that several appointments from Osun had gone to individuals perceived to be aligned with the camp of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Following the discussions, President Tinubu reportedly directed Senator Ajibola Bashiru, popularly known as SRJ, to organise the affected leaders and integrate them into the party's campaign structure.

The directive is understood to be part of efforts to strengthen cohesion within the APC and mobilise all major stakeholders ahead of the election.

The Osun APC Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to provide further details.

The development comes less than a week before Osun residents go to the polls to elect the next governor, with the APC seeking to unseat the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The emergency meeting underscores the importance attached to internal party cohesion and grassroots mobilisation as the APC and other political parties enter the final stage of their campaigns.
