OSOGBO — The Osun State chapter of the Accord has strongly condemned a shooting incident at the Naira and Kobo Garage in Ikire, which left a commercial bus driver and an innocent passenger dead. According to an official statement issued by the state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the incident occurred earlier today when the Divisional Police Officer of Irewole Division, Mr. Bamidele Olatona, allegedly led an unprovoked attack on civilians at the public park.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that normal operations were ongoing at the garage with no active crisis or conflict when the DPO personally stormed the location and fired sporadically into a crowd of unarmed civilians. The tragic event resulted in the deaths of a commercial bus driver, Saheed Akinrole, and an innocent passenger. Describing the behavior as reckless, bloodthirsty, and an absolute disgrace to the Nigeria Police Force, the party asserted that the officer lacks the mental stability required to carry a firearm.

The statement further accuses DPO Olatona of a long pattern of partisan brutality and systemic failure in Irewole. The Accord alleged that he previously functioned as an armed enforcement wing for political interests during election periods, shielding known perpetrators and providing official police escorts to partisan thugs who terrorized peaceful residents.

Denouncing his continued presence as an immediate and dangerous threat to public safety, the Osun State Accord has called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, and the Police Service Commission to take immediate action. The party demands the prompt arrest, mandatory psychological evaluation, dismissal, and criminal prosecution of DPO Bamidele Olatona for murder and abuse of office to ensure justice is served and public confidence is restored.
