The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Amos Paul, for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on his 10-year-old daughter by burning her private part with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State and was reported to the police on July 16, 2026.
Jimoh disclosed that the suspect was promptly taken into custody following the report, while the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
The police spokesperson added that the matter would be transferred to the Command’s Gender Unit for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and unacceptable.
Ohagwu reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from all forms of abuse, violence, and exploitation.
He also urged residents to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence, and related offences to the nearest police station, assuring the public that offenders would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The incident has sparked concern among residents and child rights advocates, who continue to call for stronger measures to protect children from abuse and harmful forms of punishment.
