The Osun State Police Command has expressed concern over a clash involving rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) following a protest in Osogbo on Sunday, July 20, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the unrest began when a faction of the union alleged that its vehicles were denied access to a motor park by the dominant faction. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a confrontation, disrupting public peace and commercial activities in parts of the state capital.

The police said officers responded promptly to a distress call and used minimal force to disperse protesters and restore normalcy. Security personnel have since been deployed to motor parks across the state to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The Command urged leaders and members of the affected factions to cease hostilities and embrace peaceful dialogue or channel their grievances through appropriate authorities. It also warned against actions or statements capable of escalating tensions.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, assured residents that security agencies remain committed to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. He warned that anyone found culpable of violence or other criminal acts would face prosecution.

Residents were advised to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and provide credible information to security agencies while avoiding the spread of unverified reports that could heighten tensions.
