A Veteran Nollywood actress, humanitarian, and politician Esther Nkem Okereke has formally declared her ambition to contest Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election on the platform of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), saying her decision is driven by a desire to address the country's deep-rooted challenges through systemic reforms.

In an interview with TheCable Lifestyle, Okereke explained that years of humanitarian work exposed her to the harsh realities facing millions of Nigerians, convincing her that meaningful change requires political leadership rather than charity alone.

According to the actress-turned-politician, her experiences supporting inmates, pensioners, widows, and other vulnerable groups revealed structural failures that continue to hinder national development. She said the limitations she encountered while funding philanthropic initiatives inspired her transition from activism to politics.

Okereke noted that while humanitarian efforts provide temporary relief, sustainable solutions can only be achieved through policies that address the root causes of poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and poor governance.

Central to her presidential bid is the E.S.T.H.E.R. Agenda, a policy framework she says is designed to promote economic growth, social justice, transparency, healthcare reform, education, and national renewal. She described the initiative as a roadmap aimed at rebuilding public institutions and restoring citizens’ confidence in government.

The NRM presidential hopeful argued that Nigeria possesses abundant human and natural resources but has struggled to translate its potential into widespread prosperity due to governance failures and systemic inefficiencies.

Okereke also emphasized the need for courageous leadership capable of challenging entrenched interests and implementing reforms that prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

Her emergence adds a new dimension to the growing list of aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, as political parties continue consultations and preparations for the highly anticipated contest.

Political observers say her candidacy could attract attention from women, youth groups, and supporters of alternative political movements seeking fresh leadership options outside the country's traditional political establishment.

As the 2027 election cycle gradually gathers momentum, Okereke's campaign is expected to focus on governance reform, social welfare, economic inclusion, and citizen-centered development.

Further details of her policy proposals and campaign activities are expected to emerge in the coming months as the race for Nigeria’s highest office intensifies.
