A member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
In a public message addressed to the President, Salam expressed concern over the death of Ezekiel Olapade, who was reportedly killed during a shooting incident in the community.
The lawmaker alleged that the teenager was murdered by political thugs and claimed that the perpetrators had not been brought to justice despite the incident occurring in broad daylight and in the presence of the victim's parents.
Salam lamented what he described as the failure of law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate similar incidents and prosecute those responsible. He urged President Tinubu to direct security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all suspects connected to the killing.
While emphasizing his opposition to political violence, the lawmaker stated that no political ambition should be pursued at the expense of human lives.
According to him, every Nigerian life is sacred and deserves protection, regardless of political affiliation or social status.
Salam further called on the President to uphold his constitutional responsibility of ensuring justice and safeguarding the lives of citizens, urging authorities not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet.
The appeal comes amid growing public concern over security challenges and political violence in parts of Osun State.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident and vowed to apprehend those responsible for the teenager's death.
