The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East, conducting precision airstrikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave and neutralised several insurgents in Borno State.
The operation was carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI on Friday, July 10, targeting a terrorist hideout at Yaganari in the Gezuwa general area following intelligence reports indicating renewed insurgent activities in the location.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Public Relations and Information at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
According to the statement, the air operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed the presence of terrorist fighters and logistics facilities within the area. Subsequent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions confirmed the location of key terrorist structures and logistics hubs before the targets were engaged.
NAF said the precision strikes successfully destroyed the identified infrastructure and neutralised several terrorists, dealing a significant blow to the group's operational capacity and efforts to regroup.
The Air Force noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to deny insurgents freedom of movement, disrupt their logistics networks, and dismantle their strongholds across the North-East theatre of operations.
Reacting to the success of the mission, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the personnel involved and described the operation as a reflection of the Nigerian Air Force's resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist elements.
“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge. We remain committed to ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven and no opportunity to recover their capabilities,” Aneke said.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, stressing that security forces remain focused on consolidating gains recorded in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
The latest operation underscores the military's determination to degrade terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security to communities affected by insurgency in the North-East region.
