The Kebbi State Government has finalized plans to sponsor the wedding of 300 couples under the third edition of its mass wedding programme, aimed at supporting eligible residents across the state.

The Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, disclosed this during a media briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

Argungu explained that the beneficiaries were selected from the state's 21 local government areas and 225 wards following a screening exercise. He noted that the programme, organized in partnership with the NANAS Foundation, founded by the wife of Governor Nasir Idris, is open to qualified indigenes regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.

According to him, each groom will receive ₦250,000 as dowry in accordance with Islamic marital traditions. He added that all prospective couples will undergo mandatory medical examinations to determine their health status and compatibility before the wedding ceremony.

The committee chairman further stated that local government committees have been directed to verify that each groom has a sustainable source of income capable of supporting a family.

The mass wedding ceremony is scheduled to hold in Birnin Kebbi and is expected to attract Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic scholars, community leaders, and other dignitaries.

Argungu also revealed that the NANAS Foundation will provide the newlyweds with beds, mattresses, food items, and other household necessities to ease the transition into married life.

To ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative, a monitoring committee has been established to track the welfare of the couples and ensure the distributed support materials are properly utilized.

The mass wedding programme forms part of the Kebbi State Government's social welfare initiatives aimed at promoting family stability and providing support to low-income residents seeking to establish homes.
