The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo following concerns over its deteriorating condition.

The governor gave the directive during an inspection visit to the bridge on Sunday, stressing the need to restore the structure ahead of the commissioning of the newly completed Okefia Flyover Bridge.

According to Governor Adeleke, the Ministry of Works should urgently assess the state of the bridge, carry out necessary repairs, clean the facility, and address any structural or aesthetic deficiencies to ensure it aligns with the standards of the Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges.

He emphasized that the bridge remains a valuable state asset that must be properly maintained for public use.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset, and we must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” the governor said.

Adeleke reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining public infrastructure, noting that governance is a continuous process that transcends political administrations.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.

The directive is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance public safety, and preserve existing public assets across Osun State.

The statement was disclosed by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday.
