The member representing Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has strongly opposed the Federal Government's rehabilitation and reintegration programme for former Boko Haram insurgents, insisting that those responsible for killings and acts of terrorism should face justice rather than be rehabilitated with public funds.

Speaking on the country's security situation, Gagdi argued that it is unfair for taxpayers' money to be spent on rehabilitating individuals accused of carrying out violent attacks while victims and affected communities continue to bear the scars of insurgency.

According to the lawmaker, anyone found guilty of terrorism-related offences should be prosecuted in line with the law, stressing that justice for victims must remain at the centre of the government's counterterrorism efforts.

Gagdi called on President Bola Tinubu to review policies relating to the reintegration of former insurgents, maintaining that accountability and justice are critical to restoring public confidence and achieving lasting peace.

His comments have renewed debate over the Federal Government's deradicalisation and reintegration initiatives, with critics questioning the policy's effectiveness and supporters arguing that it encourages defections from terrorist groups.

The Plateau lawmaker maintained that the fight against terrorism must prioritise the protection of innocent citizens and ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are held accountable for their actions.
