The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N108 million recovered during an investigation into an alleged case of fraud involving two former employees of a Lagos-based company.

The funds were presented in bank drafts to Karren Walters Attorneys by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

According to the anti-graft agency, the recovered money is part of the proceeds traced during an investigation into allegations of abuse of office, forgery, stealing, and diversion of company funds.

The EFCC identified the suspects as Nkechi Gladys Megai, who is reportedly on the run after fleeing to the United Kingdom, and Godson Eze, a former Chief Financial Officer of the company.

Investigators said the suspects allegedly exploited their positions by forging official documents, creating fake invoices in the names of legitimate vendors, and diverting company funds through fraudulent transactions over an extended period. The Commission added that the total amount involved in the alleged fraud runs into several hundreds of millions of naira.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Bawa Usman Kaltungo, reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to ensuring justice for victims of economic and financial crimes.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend all individuals connected to the alleged fraud, including those who have fled the country, and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.

Representatives of the company, while receiving the recovered funds, commended the EFCC for its professionalism and thorough investigation. They said the recovered N108 million would help cushion the financial losses suffered by the company and expressed appreciation for the Commission's efforts in recovering the stolen assets.
