The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports alleging that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over an alleged visa racketeering scandal.

In a statement issued by the Commission's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC said it had observed media reports suggesting that the Immigration Comptroller-General was being investigated, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The anti-graft agency clarified that while it is prosecuting some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service over alleged visa fraud at the Federal High Court, the ongoing investigations do not involve the Comptroller-General.

According to the Commission, investigations into the alleged visa fraud are still ongoing, with the possibility that more immigration officers may be arraigned in court if sufficient evidence is established.

The EFCC stressed that Kemi Nandap is "not remotely connected" to the ongoing investigations and urged media organisations to verify information with the Commission before publication to avoid the misrepresentation of facts.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to thorough and impartial investigations while calling on the media to uphold accuracy and professionalism in reporting its activities.
