The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a bill repealing the Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Law, 2019, clearing the way for the establishment of the Edo State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.

The bill was passed following a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of the Whole House. After adopting the committee's report, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku directed the Clerk of the House to transmit clean copies of the bill to Governor Monday Okpebholo for assent.

According to the Assembly, the new law provides for the establishment of the institution, its commencement date, the composition of its Governing Council and Academic Board, funding structure, and other administrative frameworks required for its effective operation.

During deliberations, lawmakers approved an amendment moved by Kaycee Osamwonyi Atu and seconded by Sunday Ojiezele. The amendment annexes the First Schedule, contained on pages 26 and 27 of the bill, to facilitate its implementation.

In a separate development, the House received a letter from Governor Okpebholo, dated June 26, 2026, seeking the confirmation of Martins Anayochukwu Oli as a commissioner-designate.

Speaker Agbebaku referred the nomination to the House Standing Committee on Government House, Rules and Business for screening and directed the committee to submit its report within two weeks.

The Speaker also expressed sympathy to residents affected by the recent heavy rainfall across Edo State, which reportedly destroyed at least five houses and caused property losses worth millions of naira. He assured victims of the government's commitment to providing the necessary support.

Agbebaku further extended the Assembly's condolences to the families of children who lost their lives during the devastating rainfall that struck Lagos on Monday.

The House subsequently adjourned plenary until Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
