The Headquarters of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has reiterated its commitment to a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some recently passed-out personnel, while stating that it has not received any formal complaint or credible evidence to substantiate rape allegations circulating on social media.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Ibrahim Yahaya, the military said the clarification followed its earlier press release of June 30, 2026, on allegations of unprofessional conduct by some personnel.

According to the statement, the Board of Inquiry earlier constituted to investigate the allegations is still carrying out its assignment and will ensure that no aspect of the case is overlooked.

The Army assured the public that any personnel found culpable after the investigation would be sanctioned in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other extant laws, stressing that it does not condone indiscipline.

Addressing allegations of rape recently attributed to the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, and widely circulated on social media, the command said no formal complaint, medical report or credible evidence had been submitted by any alleged victim, witness or the university management.

It described the rape claims as unconfirmed in the absence of verifiable evidence and cautioned against spreading information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation or creating unnecessary tension.

The Depot appealed to anyone claiming to be a victim of assault or sexual misconduct, as well as eyewitnesses with relevant evidence such as videos, photographs, medical records or witness statements, to present such information confidentially to the Board of Inquiry at the Headquarters, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, or through the Army Public Relations Office.

It assured prospective witnesses and victims that their identities and safety would be protected in line with military and legal procedures, adding that credible evidence remains the only basis for identifying and prosecuting anyone found responsible.

The command also urged media organisations, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the management of Osun State University and members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, warning that sensationalism and misinformation could undermine efforts to establish the truth and cause unnecessary panic among students and host communities.

The Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, reaffirmed its commitment to civil-military cooperation, the protection of students and the promotion of human rights, promising to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.
