A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of an application challenging the revocation of his bail.

The order was issued on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar, who also dismissed an application by Sowore seeking the judge's withdrawal from the case over allegations of bias.

During the proceedings, the court directed that Sowore remain in custody pending the determination of a motion filed by his legal team seeking a stay of execution of the order revoking his bail and the bench warrant previously issued against him.

Justice Umar subsequently adjourned the matter until June 24, 2026, for the hearing of the application.

The development follows the court's earlier decision to revoke Sowore's bail after he reportedly failed to appear for trial as scheduled. The court had also issued a bench warrant for his arrest following an application by the prosecution.

Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), is currently facing prosecution over allegations linked to comments he made on social media concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The case has continued to attract significant public attention, with supporters of the activist present at the court premises during Monday's proceedings.
