Boko Haram has released a video obituary for one of its media operatives, Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was reportedly killed during a military operation by Nigerian troops.
The three-minute video, narrated in Arabic, highlights al-Barnawi's role as a cameraman, propagandist and participant in the insurgent group's combat operations. The footage was reportedly produced to commemorate his activities within the terrorist organisation following his death.
Military sources said al-Barnawi was neutralised during an attack on a military camp, describing his death as a significant blow to the group's media and propaganda network.
Security experts have consistently identified propaganda as a key tool used by terrorist groups to recruit members, spread ideology and project influence.
The Nigerian military has continued its counter-insurgency operations across the North-East, targeting the leadership, logistics and media structures of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups operating in the region.
