A senior officer of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Colonel Abdulsalam Ude, has been killed after resisting an attempted abduction by suspected gunmen at his residence in Abuja.
The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Monday at Phase 5, Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Assistant Director of Protocol at the DIA, J.E. Oti, said the attackers ambushed the senior military officer shortly after he arrived home and attempted to forcefully abduct him.
According to the statement, Colonel Ude resisted the attack, leading to a confrontation during which he was fatally shot by the assailants.
The Defence Intelligence Agency described the late officer as a dedicated and courageous personnel who served the nation with distinction. The agency also extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and loved ones.
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The killing has heightened concerns over security in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, particularly following a series of reported attacks and kidnapping incidents on the outskirts of Abuja. Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice and strengthen security across affected communities.
