The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for the four newly established divisions of the Nigerian Army as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's security architecture.

The appointments come days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions, alongside the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel to enhance operational capacity across the country.

In addition to naming the new GOCs, the Army leadership also announced the redeployment of several brigadier generals in a strategic reshuffle aimed at improving command efficiency and boosting operational effectiveness in various formations.

The newly created divisions are expected to reinforce the Army's response to emerging security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in different parts of the country.

Military authorities said the appointments and redeployments form part of broader reforms designed to reposition the Nigerian Army for improved service delivery and more effective coordination of operations nationwide.

The expansion of the Army's divisional structure is expected to enhance troop deployment, strengthen command and control, and improve the military's ability to respond swiftly to security threats across Nigeria.

The latest development underscores the Federal Government's commitment to reinforcing national security through increased manpower, strengthened leadership, and enhanced military readiness.
