ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Senate President Godswill Akpabio to a key position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.


Akpabio was named Deputy Director-General, South I, as part of the 223-member campaign council constituted by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.


The appointment places the Senate President among the top APC leaders expected to play a strategic role in mobilising support for President Tinubu’s bid for a second term.


Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, was also appointed Deputy Director-General for the North, alongside other senior party leaders assigned responsibilities across the campaign structure.


President Tinubu will serve as the Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda will serve as Vice Chairmen.


Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary.


Other prominent figures given roles in the campaign council include former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who will oversee mobilisation as Deputy Director-General, and James Faleke, appointed Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.


The campaign council also comprises officials responsible for fundraising, legal affairs, media and strategic communications, new media, mobilisation and other key areas.


The appointments come as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the party seeking to retain the presidency and strengthen its position across the country.


Akpabio’s appointment is expected to further position the Senate leadership within the APC’s campaign structure as the ruling party begins to consolidate its political machinery ahead of the election.
