The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto Branch, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has donated 700 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to the Sokoto State Government to support efforts to combat malnutrition among vulnerable children.


The donation was made under the Malnutrition Emergency Appeal Programme (MEAP) and formally handed over on Friday to the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SSPHCDA) for distribution to targeted beneficiaries. 


The therapeutic food is expected to be distributed across Sokoto North, Sokoto South and Wamakko Local Government Areas, where the MEAP is currently being implemented.


Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, a representative of the SSPHCDA commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society and IFRC for their continued support in addressing malnutrition across the state.


The official assured that the donated commodities would be used strictly for their intended purpose and distributed to children identified as requiring nutritional support.


The Nigerian Red Cross Society said the intervention forms part of its broader humanitarian efforts to reduce the impact of malnutrition on vulnerable children and strengthen community-based responses to the challenge.


The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Sokoto State Government, health authorities, development partners and other stakeholders to strengthen interventions aimed at preventing and treating malnutrition.


The Red Cross said it would continue supporting vulnerable communities through humanitarian programmes designed to improve access to essential health and nutritional services across Sokoto State.
