The Accord Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy additional Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines to polling units with large voter populations and introduce GPS tracking for vehicles conveying election materials ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The demands were presented by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, Hon. Bamidele Salam, during a stakeholders' engagement with the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), and other key stakeholders on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

In the presentation, Accord expressed concern over polling units with more than 1,000 registered voters, arguing that the number of backup BVAS devices planned by INEC may be insufficient in the event of technical failures.

The party urged the electoral commission to deploy additional BVAS machines to such polling units in line with the 2026 INEC Regulations and Guidelines to prevent voter exhaustion, long queues, and delays in the accreditation process.

Accord also called for enhanced logistics and security measures, recommending that all vehicles used for transporting election materials and personnel be fitted with GPS tracking devices to ensure real-time monitoring and prevent tampering.

The party further requested that INEC profile all vehicles and drivers involved in election logistics from the local government level down to individual polling units. It also urged the commission to deploy a joint security team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, DSS, NDLEA, the military, and the Nigeria Immigration Service to safeguard election materials, officials, and transport vehicles throughout the exercise.

According to the party, the proposed measures would strengthen transparency, improve operational efficiency, and enhance public confidence in the conduct of the Osun governorship election.
