A chieftain of the Accord Party in Osun State, Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, has alleged that another group of party members was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police in Erin Oke and Erin Ijesa.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Olajengbesi claimed that the arrests took place around midnight and alleged that the operation was carried out on the orders of a serving federal lawmaker, Hon. Wole Oke. He further alleged that the arrested individuals were subjected to humiliation.
According to him, those arrested are:
Olanipekun Gbenga Abayomi (Erin Oke)
Ibrahim Adetomi (Erin Oke)
Adeyekun Abiodun (Erin Oke)
Ajide Hammed (Erin Oke)
Dickson Joseph (Erin Oke)
Agunbiade Gbenga (Erin Ijesa)
Olajengbesi condemned the alleged arrests, describing them as acts of intimidation that, in his view, would not influence the outcome of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15.
He argued that history has shown that political oppression does not guarantee electoral success, maintaining that the will of the people remains stronger than intimidation.
The Accord Party chieftain also expressed confidence that voters in Osun would make their choices freely at the polls, insisting that democratic processes should prevail over political pressure.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement regarding the alleged arrests, while Wole Oke had not publicly responded to the allegations.
Pulse reports that the claims remain allegations by the Accord Party chieftain and have not been independently verified. Efforts to obtain comments from the police and other parties involved were ongoing at the time of publication.
