The Accord Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure strict compliance with the Electoral Act by electronically transmitting polling unit results through the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal while maintaining its independence and neutrality ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The demands were contained in a presentation delivered by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, Hon. Bamidele Salam, during a stakeholders' engagement with the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), and other major stakeholders on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

In the presentation, Accord insisted that Presiding Officers must electronically upload polling unit results to the IReV portal immediately after voting, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026. The party said strict compliance with electronic transmission would enhance transparency, strengthen public confidence in the electoral process, and allow observers and Nigerians to monitor results as they move through the collation stages.

The party also reaffirmed that the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation must remain mandatory, stressing that manual accreditation should not be permitted under any circumstance. It maintained that any polling unit without a functional BVAS machine should not proceed with voting, insisting on the principle of "No BVAS, No Election."

Accord further urged INEC to uphold its constitutional independence by resisting all forms of external interference, intimidation, or partisan pressure before, during, and after the election. The party called on the Commission to ensure that all permanent and ad hoc staff conduct themselves with professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to the Electoral Act and INEC's regulations.

Describing the Osun governorship election as the last major off-cycle governorship poll before the 2027 general elections, Accord said the exercise presents INEC with a crucial opportunity to reinforce public confidence in Nigeria's electoral system by delivering a free, fair, credible, and transparent election that truly reflects the will of the people.
