The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly harbouring suspected election result hackers at the GMT Hotel in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The party, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday and signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, alleged that credible intelligence indicated that the suspected hackers had been brought into the state from Lagos and Abuja to establish an operational centre at the hotel.

According to Accord, the alleged plan was to compromise the electronic systems of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and manipulate or upload fictitious election results to the commission's electronic database.

The party urged security agencies to investigate the allegation and take appropriate action, including searching the GMT Hotel and other locations where it alleged that illegal operations could be taking place.

Accord also called on INEC to strengthen its digital infrastructure and ICT security measures ahead of the election, warning that potential cyber threats could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.

“We also call on security agencies to raid the GMT Hotel and other illegal centres to stop the ongoing anti-democracy activities,” the statement said.

The party, while reaffirming its readiness to mobilise voters for the August 15 election, urged INEC to review and reinforce its digital security arrangements to prevent any attempt to hack or manipulate the electoral process.

Accord warned that any attempt to compromise the election would be resisted by the people of Osun State.

The allegations against the APC and the reported activities at the GMT Hotel had not been independently verified at the time of filing this report. The APC and relevant security agencies had also not publicly responded to the allegations.
