Wale Owokanpa, popularly known as Funny Thinker, has expressed doubt about the chances of Ambassador Hamzat Oriyomi, the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election, winning the poll.
Funny Thinker made the remarks during an appearance on the Core Room Podcast, where he argued that Oriyomi’s popularity as a media personality might not be enough to secure victory in the forthcoming governorship election.
According to him, the contest is more likely to be between the candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He maintained that his assessment was not motivated by hatred towards Oriyomi but was based on his perception of the political situation in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.
Ambassador Hamzat Oriyomi, a media personality who has built a public profile through his work in the media industry, is expected to leverage his name recognition as he prepares for the governorship contest under the Accord Party.
However, Funny Thinker suggested that public recognition alone does not automatically translate into electoral success, stressing the distinction between popularity and the ability to win votes at the polls.
His comments have added to the political conversations surrounding the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, with attention gradually shifting towards the strength of the parties and the prospects of their respective candidates.
The 2027 governorship election is expected to feature competition among candidates seeking to win the support of voters across the state.
