Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunnla is facing growing opposition within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State over reported moves to secure the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in the Osun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.


Ajagunnla, who currently represents Osun Central in the Senate on the PDP platform since 2023, had previously defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025. However, after failing to secure the APC senatorial ticket, he returned to the PDP weeks before the 2026 Osun State governorship election, where he endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke.


His return to the PDP has continued to generate controversy, with some party members reportedly questioning his commitment to the party and his political consistency.

The controversy was further heightened by the position of Hon. Ibraheem Adekunle, an Ikirun-born politician who had been seeking the PDP ticket for the Osun Central senatorial seat. Adekunle had raised concerns over alleged moves by some party leaders to hand the ticket to Ajagunnla, describing the senator as a “political gambler.”


In recent days, several audio recordings purportedly featuring PDP members have circulated online, with individuals expressing opposition to Ajagunnla’s reported ambition to return to the party’s ticket.


Some of those heard in the recordings accused the senator of failing to adequately deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituents and challenged him to publicly account for his achievements in office.


Others reportedly described him as an “opportunist” and “political chameleon,” citing his movement between the APC and PDP as evidence of what they perceive as political inconsistency.


The unfolding development raises fresh questions about the political future of the senator and the battle for the PDP ticket in Osun Central ahead of the 2027 election.


The central question now is whether Ajagunnla can successfully rebuild trust within the PDP and convince party members and constituents that he deserves another term, or whether the opposition gathering around his reported ambition could deny him the party’s ticket.
